HOME FOR A HOLIDAY original composition by dale 1998 A soldier away on foreign soil, Helping a stranger with pain and toil. Fighting for others civil rights Alone standing guard in the dead of night. Far away he’ll have to stay, Just hopes to go home for a holiday Wouldn’t have to be New Year’s Day, Good Friday or Veteran’s Day, Not even Independence Day, Just let him go home for a holiday. A young woman beaten and battered, Away from those who really matter. Unable and afraid to go back home, Hiding from a man who won’t leave her alone. The volunteers at the shelter all say, Maybe you’ll be home for a holiday. It wouldn’t have to be Thanksgiving Day Not Groundhog or Sweetest Day. Not Easter or Lincoln’s Birthday, Just let her go home for a holiday. A child sick in a hospital bed, To weak and sick to even raise his head. The doctors have done all they can do, His young life ending way too soon. His mother holds him as he struggles to say, Please take me home for a holiday. It doesn’t have to be Christmas Day, Not Valentines or St. Patrick’s Day, Not even his favorite, Mother’s Day. Just let him go home for a holiday. An innocent man who’s on death row, Waiting for the day, his time to go. He was in the wrong place at the wrong time, Falsely convicted of another’s crime. Someone’s debt he’s forced to pay, He’ll no longer see any holiday. He won’t see Father’s Day, Not Columbus or Labor Day. Not even Flag or Memorial Day, He’ll never be home for a holiday. |
